A 4-Week Series with Karen Bachman & Kelly Shields

Refinement is a form of strength.
— -Outer Banks Yoga

Yoga meets you exactly where you are. At any age and any fitness level, yoga has the power to steady the mind, strengthen the body, and support greater flexibility, mobility, and overall well‑being.

Roll out your mat with us and explore the blend of movement, breathwork, and mindful awareness that has supported practitioners for thousands of years.

If you’ve completed our Foundations of Yoga series—or have some experience with yoga— you’re ready for Foundations of Yoga II.

In this four‑week series, you’ll deepen your understanding of yoga’s essential foundations—refining what you already know while strengthening safe alignment, intentional muscle engagement, and steady, easeful breathing. These skills support balance, improve posture, and help you move with greater confidence and clarity. You’ll experience the joy of flowing through a sequence of poses linked with the breath, staying present and moving mindfully with your own inner wisdom and awareness.

This series is ideal for the “experienced beginner,” anyone returning to their mat after time away, or practitioners with a beginner’s mindset who are ready to take the next step. You’ll gain the tools, insight, and confidence to continue growing your yoga practice and to cultivate a healthy, sustainable habit in your life.

Karen Bachman RYT-500

Karen graduated from the Amalam School of Yoga at Outer Banks Yoga in 2019 and completed her 300-hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training through My Vinyasa Practice in Austin, TX in 2021, and 300-hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training with Anne Howard in 2023 at Amalam School of Yoga at Outer Banks Yoga.

Connecting the body mind and spirit to playful movement brings joy to Karen's practice. Motivated by exploring movement, consciousness, philosophy and that sweet spot between ancient and modern wisdom, Karen enjoys helping others find their way toward positive change and growth. Her deepest hope is for you to feel strongly connected to your heart when you step off your mat after practicing together.

Kelly Shields RYT-500

In 2016, Kelly began to explore the benefits of yoga, primarily looking for stress relief and to touch her toes. Separate from the physical benefits, Kelly began to see the mental, emotional and spiritual benefits of a yoga practice, and wanted to learn more. Two years later, she registered for the 220-hour yoga teacher training program at Outer Banks Yoga’s Amalam School of Yoga and never looked back. Kelly went on to complete her 300-Hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training at Amalam School of Yoga at Outer Banks Yoga. Through this training, Kelly overcame some of her own fears (headstands, kale, and Sanskrit terms, to name a few), and enjoys encouraging students to overcome their fears and self-doubt and to stretch their bodies and minds further than they thought possible. And yes, Kelly can now touch her toes!
