As the beach was our 'studio' it was an easy decision to include a yoga practice during our weekend getaway to OBX. The view was spectacular and the yoga was just what was in order to get our day off to a fabulous start. Susan, our teacher, was amazing as our practice was gentle yet invigorating-with plenty of modifications. Whether a resident or vacationer in OBX, be sure to give the gift of a yoga practice to yourself! Many thanks to Susan. NAMASTE♡ - CTP

We traveled to OBX with our families for a week of sun and fun. As a nice surprise, we booked 2 morning beach sessions with OBX Yoga and their teacher Anne. Although some of our group had never taken a class, they were extremely excited to try...even the guys!

We had a wonderful, energizing, relaxing & fun class with Anne, as we listened the the waves, the breeze and the birds. What a great way to start a vacation!

I totally recommend trying some beach yoga if you're visiting OBX! - Sean (June 2016)

I have practiced yoga all over the world and I have never experienced a teacher like Anne. She changed my practice, my body and my life by opening a door that I never knew was available to me. Words fail to describe how gifted she is on every level. Namaste and gratitude!!!!! - Manveena Singh (founder, OPYN)

Wonderful yoga studio with a super relaxed feeling. Great instructors. I've taken stretch classes, taichi/yoga and power yoga and all have been great! It's one of the few studios where my daughter (age 11), my husband and I can all feel engaged and challenged by a class. And they are open all year!!! - Cydney

Yoga on the Beach this morning was the best yoga class I've ever taken with an instructor and other students present. Sue was great and I love that she gave us some challenging pose options! And the sunshine was awesome! Namaste. - Jen Jones

Fantastic instructor and great atmosphere! My mom had never done yoga before and she made sure we were both comfortable and didn't push us outside of our comfort zone. Would definitely do it again! -

I went to the Outer Banks for a week and did a search for Pilates classes and found this studio. I have been a Pilates student for 10 years and have taken Ballecore and Barre classes so I'm pretty advanced. I have to say these instructors kicked my Butt! I was so impressed with the classes! They were super creative and different from the normal Pilates mat classes but I absolutely loved it!! I highly recommend this studio for anyone who does Pilates or Barre. The instructors are all in  great shape and really knew their stuff! - Colleen S.

Had a wonderful beach yoga session on a Tuesday morning, there were 10 of us from our group and we all loved it! We have some converts for sure! Already planning for next year! - Sue Tedick

I am a yoga instructor in DC, so I can be a bit particular, but I also am open to just about anything! OBX Yoga did not disappoint. The class was identified as a "vinyasa" class on their schedule, but it wasn't just moving mindlessly into one posture after another. The instructor, Anne, gave us a chance to deepen each posture and the sequencing made a lot of sense--it was a thoughtfully crafted class and my body is still saying thank you the next day. If you're visiting the OBX, you will definitely feel welcome here. - Vicki F

Absolutely enjoyed a yoga class at this place. The atmosphere is inviting and relaxing. The instructor kept the class going at a good pace and always explained to students how to adjust poses to their levels. I definitely recommend this studio if you want to take yoga classes while vacationing in OBX. - Margarita M.

Every time I visit the Outer Banks I try and visit this beautiful and inviting Yoga Studio! It is like a home away from home for me! A must not miss! - Donna Z. Wynn

I was recently in Kill Devil Hills for a week-long, 42 person family reunion.  I contacted OB Yoga about coming to the houses we rented and doing a class there.  They were a pleasure to deal with and very accomodating.  Anne Howard was absolutely AMAZING.  She somehow managed to make everyone feel challenged and comfortable, no matter their age or level.  We had ages 28- 82 and everyone left class feeling like they got a great practice in.  Thank you, Anne & Outer Banks Yoga!! - Jennifer

Outer Banks Yoga has been a lifesaver for me. After my husband of 32 years died, I began practicing again after a very long hiatus from yoga. The studio was comforting, calm, and peaceful. After the turmoil and helplessness of watching a loved one die of cancer, there was a relief for me when I realized that Outer Banks Yoga was only a couple of miles away. The teachers were (are) skilled but accepting of limitations of students who are not in tip-top yoga shape. The studio schedule changes with the needs of the students, and workshops are always on the horizon.  Most importantly for me, there is always time for savasana at the end of every class. Hence, there is a clear feeling there that your spirituality is just as important as your body; that rest and relaxation are as important as a vigorous practice of yoga asanas; AND that yoga is not a physical exercise, but a way of living.  – Vicki Moore

The Outer Banks is a beautiful spiritual place and Outer Banks Yoga heightens my connection to the Divine. Every instructor at the studio aims you toward nirvana.   I have been enjoying my practice for over a decade and have moved over age sixty.  My practice now includes a lot of props.  I continue to be pleased by all the benefits I reap from yoga as I age like knowing my body, flexibility, an open mind, kind words, a loving heart and tight glutes. – Shirley Ruff www.shirleyruff.com

Thank you Michelle, for the many years of giving all aspiring yogis an inclusive and kind space to practice and learn.  I have learned much you and from the wide variety of teachers you have sponsored and the diversity of classes you have offered.   I especially love seeing students return to the studio as teachers, sharing their various strengths and perspectives.  I hope you will continue to be a guiding light in our yoga community. With loving kindness, Reeni J

I had the pleasure of meeting Anne a few years ago when she came to me wanting to work with our students in Dare County Schools.  I had no idea how blessed our students in after-school were, until I too attended her yoga classes at Outer Banks Yoga.  When I walk into the Outer Banks Yoga Studio in Kitty Hawk I have a calm and peacefulness about me that I can obtain no where else in my busy life.  Sunday’s Karma class is my favorite! I never know what Yogi is on the other side of the wall and I love them all.  Ticha has such a gentle, calming, and balanced feeling about her. Roger helps me to attempt poses I would never try, makes us focus and work hard to hold those poses.  And Anne, well I have to say she just makes everything in the world right when I walk out of there!  Yoga balances my life like nothing else can and I truly thank you for continuing on my dear friend Brooks Rainy’s studio.  I remember when she came to me with the idea many years ago, before she started the studio.  I was very inspired by her years later of course!   I finally got it, yoga makes the world a better place! Thank you very much for inspiring me to be happy! Sincerely, Samantha Brown

I just wanted to let you know how much I love love love your studio.  I live in VA and like so many of us here I try to get to the Outer Banks as much as possible. I was there today and attended the Hatha-Vinyasa Level II class. It was WONDERFUL!  I think Cynthia was the instructor.  I just felt compelled to write to you and let you know. I myself am a Level I yoga instructor but I’m also an eager student.  Your studio is absolutely beautiful and inspiring as well. It’s exactly like something I’d dream of doing one day. Thank you so much and I will definitely see you again when I’m there again. Namaste! - Carol Zachary

If you‘re ready for a peaceful, free flowing Vinyasa practice that is truly geared for a beginner all the way up to an accomplished Yogi then definitely try Anne’s Vinyasa multi-level class. Her beautiful presence on the mat and loving words of encouragement will elevate all Yogis who are open to the experience. Her approach to Parsva Bakasana (a posture that I have been working on) was so simple and graceful that before I knew it, there I was in Parsva Bakasana. Thank You Anne!

For me the crème da la crème was the Beach Yoga taught by Stacie on Wednesday mornings behind the Hilton Hotel. I have been practicing Yoga for a number of years and her practice was without a doubt one of the best practices that I have ever attended (simple, gentle and peaceful). For the short time that I spoke to Stacie, before and after class, I have to say she is truly a warm and beautiful Yogi who offers positive energy to her practice and students. Thank You Stacie!

So, after a two week stay on the Outer Banks I can definitely say that the Outer Banks Yoga & Pilates Studio was the highlight of my stay. Especially the Beach Yoga  - Nicholas Edivan

Lying. In a yoga pose. On the floor of a beach house in Nags head. Listening to Michelle’s gentle voice. The breeze was blowing gently in through the open windows. The light was bright and warm outside. The air was gentle. I was surrounded by women who love. I don’t know if my eyes were open or closed. But I could see the sea. With water dancing off the waves. And then I could only hear the sea. The waves. Gentle motion. Gentle rhythm. And I felt myself float out the window. Out above the sea. I have never in my life been more present than I was at that moment. It was a moment of absolute perfect consciousness. Transcendent consciousness. I was all alone and yet completely held. Not lonely. It was as if there was no one else in the world. But I knew I was surrounded. I felt a calm stillness I have never before in my life experienced. Absolute peace.

And for the first time in my life I was aware that in that single second I didn’t fear death.

The moment, for me, when I didn’t fear death that was the moment when I was absolutely my most alive.

Love, love, love the OmBX!  I popped in for Anne’s Vinyasa class on a recent vacation and left on Cloud 9.  The studio itself is serene and beautiful and Anne’s class was truly one of the best I’ve ever had.  I left feeling strong, centered and happy.  If I lived anywhere in the area I would be a regular! – R.M.
